The future king of Denmark reached a new royal milestone on Monday evening: Crown Prince Christian participated in his first state banquet.

President Tô Lâm and First Lady Ngô Phương Ly, of Vietnam, began a three-day state visit to Denmark on Monday. Their first day culminated in a state banquet at Christiansborg Palace, which Crown Prince Christian attended.

The future king joined the greeting line alongside his parents, King Frederik and Queen Mary, and President Tô Lâm and First Lady Ngô Phương Ly before entering the ballroom for dinner.

Inside, Crown Prince Christian sat next to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. Given that he is currently a platoon commander at the Royal Life Guards based at Høvelte Barracks, he wore their red gala uniform.

The future king celebrated his 21st birthday last week, and to celebrate, the Danish Royal Court released new gala portraits of the future king in the same uniform. Crown Prince Christian also received the Grand Commander’s Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog from his father.

There are only seven Grand Commanders of the Order of the Dannebrog, which is exclusive to royalty who are already Knights of the Order of the Elephant. According to the Danish Royal Court, these are: King Frederik, Queen Mary, Crown Prince Christian, Queen Margrethe, Prince Joachim, Princess Benedikte, and King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

Crown Prince Christian also appeared on an episode of Benjamin’s World with musician and X Factor judge Benjamin Hav to give a wide-ranging interview, which he teased on social media as one full of discussions “about everything from birds to dreams for the future.”

The future king sat at the Queen Louise Bridge in Copenhagen to talk. He currently oversees 59 recruits at the Høvelte Barracks and has his plans shored up through the summer of 2027. After that, he’s unsure of what he plans to do; whether he continues on with the military or he begins university studies.

Of how he plans for his royal future, Crown Prince Christian said he tries “to look at what my father [King Frederik] did or what my grandmother [Queen Margrethe] did. It’s a small common thread, without me copying it completely, because then you don’t become a person with your own identity.”

He also revealed that he focuses on experiencing life in spite of his royal status, because he doesn’t “want to feel self-conscious about being myself. I don’t want to think, ‘No, I can’t do that because there are too many people.’”

His favourite food? One of them is sushi. He likes to attend musical festivals with his friends and his sister, Princess Isabella, and he likes to spend time with his family. He also revealed that the Danish Royal Family tries to gather on Sundays for a meal.
