The Duchess of Gloucester was in Denmark to carry out a special role that she took over from Queen Elizabeth II.
The Duchess travelled to Copenhagen to visit the St. Alban’s Anglican Church of which she is patron.
The Danish born duchess took on the role in 2025. The last patron had been Queen Elizabeth II>
And it’s clearly a place close to her heart as this is her second visit in as many years.
Under bright sunshine and clear blue skies, the Duchess was welcomed to the church which serves both Copenhagen and Aarhus.
She was shown around the church and met clergy and volunteers who look after it and its congregation.
St. Alban’s Church is part of the Diocese in Europe of the Church of England. It’s known as the ”English Church” but estimates that it currently serves a congregation made up of 25 different nationalities.
During her time at the church, the Duchess of Gloucester also saw a tree she planted this time last year during her previous visit. The tree was to mark the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Denmark as World War Two came to an end. It’s planted in Churchill Park where the church is located.
For this whirlwind visit to Denmark, the Duchess chose a suitably patriotic blend for her outfit. She wore a bright red coat with white blouse visible underneath, a nod to the colours of the Danish flag. But she carried one of her most noted accessories – a handbag shaped like a Union Jack.
The Duchess travelled to Copenhagen fresh from commemorations for the centenary of the birth of Queen Elizabeth II.
On April 21, she had joined King Charles and Queen Camilla at a special event at the British Museum where the final plans for the national memorial to the Late Queen were revealed. They include a statue of Elizabeth II which has drawn some controversy after it was described as too small.
At Buckingham Palace, later the same day, the Duchess was with the Royal Family for a reception marking the centenary, held for representatives of charities Elizabeth II had supported as well as for three people celebrating their 100th birthdays that day.
And with the Duke of Gloucester, the Duchess joined the rest of the working Royal Family for a portrait with King Charles and Queen Camilla at its heart.
