The future queens of Europe are starting to become more active in their royal duties, and this year I’m looking back at a few of their fashion highlights as they step into the spotlight!
THE LADIES WHO STOLE THE SHOW IN LUXEMBOURG

How do you choose between Princess Catharina-Amalia in a juniper tulle and sequins Monique Lhuillier ball gown and Princess Elisabeth in a silver embellished Jenny Packham evening gown? They might have just stolen the show from all the other royal ladies in attendance at the gala dinner for Grand Duke Guillaume’s accession in October!

Maybe I’ll give the win here to Princess Catharina-Amalia, and give Princess Elisabeth the win for the swearing-in ceremony earlier in the day. The blue Nattan couture dress with dramatic sleeves and embellished waist was a marvel of design!
PRINCESS INGRID ALEXANDRA IS TRÈS BIEN IN VIVIENNE WESTWOOD AT THE FRENCH STATE BANQUET

Both of Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s major style wins this year came at state banquets. When French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Oslo in June, the future queen of Norway was there to participate in the events.
At the French state banquet on the first night, her burgundy satin Vivienne Westwood gown gave high style with the draped shoulders and corseted waist.
PRINCESS LEONOR SHOWS QUIET ELEGANCE IS HER CALLING CARD

Okay, maybe it’s impossible for the namesake to steal the show at the Princess of Asturias Awards, but this plum H&M dress against Queen Letizia’s black gown and Infanta Sofía’s red jumpsuit made her stand out in the crowd.
PRINCESS ELISABETH, THE STAR

Stars and sparkle are part and parcel of the holidays, and when Princess Elisabeth returned to Belgium for Christmas one of the only public engagements she undertook was attending the annual Christmas concert at the Royal Palace. With the unofficial dress code black and gold, Princess Elisabeth married the two with this Rebecca Vallance dress—black, sleek, dramatic sleeves, and crystal stars arranged on its bodice.
ICY BLUE FOR PRINCESS INGRID ALEXANDRA’S FIRST STATE BANQUET

Days after completing her 15-month military training, Princess Ingrid Alexandra participated in her first state visit—from Iceland’s President Halla Tómasdóttir—and arrived in an ice blue gown from her mother’s closet with the Pearl Circle tiara she received as an 18th birthday gift.
LOVELY IN LAVENDER: PRINCESS CATHARINA-AMALIA AT THE OMANI STATE BANQUET

Of all the future queens, Princess Catharina-Amalia had the most opportunities to attend state functions. We could’ve done a post focusing entirely on her, truth be told. But let’s narrow it down to one stately look: the short-sleeved cape gown worn at the Omani state banquet in April. This lavender gown was the perfect springtime look, and it was a full-circle moment for the future queen, tiara-wise!
