William and Kate headed off to watch the Women’s Rugby World Cup as it reached a crucial stage but it was a game of two halves for the famously sporty couple.
The Prince of Wales was cheering on Wales and headed to Exeter where the team were playing Fiji in the first round of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Princess of Wales was in Brighton to support England who were playing Australia.
The couple are known for their competitive sporting nature and have often been seen taking each other on in challenges on engagements.
However, this proved to be a clear win for Kate as her team sailed into the quarter finals.
William was left to offer commiserations to Wales who saw their campaign come to an end after a tight match.
The Princess of Wales saw England beat Australia 47-7 in a run away victory which cemented their place in the last eight. They’re among the favourite to win the whole tournament and their 30th straight victory in competitive rugby only underlined their dominance.
Kate headed into the changing rooms afterwards to offer congratulations and to chat with the team about their competition.
She also posed for a photograph with the squad and their support staff. They were clearly delighted to see her as her visit dominated their social media in the hours after the meeting.
Prince William also took to socials but in his case it was to offer a ”well done and maybe next time” message to the Welsh team after they lost 28-25 to Fiji, bringing to an end their participation in this latest Women’s World Cup.
The Prince of Wales told them they had made the whole nation proud.
Both William and Kate wore black to their respective rugby matches. The Royal Family is now in mourning for the Duchess of Kent who died on September 4 2025 at the age of 92.
King Charles was also in black as he attended the Braemar Gathering with Queen Camilla who added a black armband to her tartan outfit.
