Donald Trump’s name is now in the royal diary but not for his current visit to Scotland

King Charles with Donald Trump who he will host on an historic State Visit in September

As President Donald Trump arrived in Scotland for a four day visit, his name appeared in the upcoming royal diary.

However, The King isn’t set to meet up with the US leader on this trip to the UK.

In fact, the royal diary online updated to show The King and Queen hosting Donald and Melania Trump for their September State Visit just as the US leader flew into Scotland for a semi official trip.

Historic State Visit for Donald Trump

It had already been announced that King Charles and Queen Camilla would host President and Mrs Trump at Windsor between September 17 and 19. However, as the royal diary for the late summer and early autumn appeared online, Donald Trump was touching down in Scotland for four days in the UK which will include a meeting with Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer.

It had originally been thought that President Trump could meet The King during this brief visit to the UK to discuss the upcoming State event but that hasn’t been seen as necessary.

King Charles is now starting his own summer holiday having completed his last scheduled engagement earlier this week with a visit to the Sandringham Flower Show.

President Trump first visited Windsor ahead of his first State Visit to the UK in 2019

The State Visit of President Trump will be historic as it’s the first time an elected leader has had two such trips. The first State Visit of President Trump was in 2019 during his first stint in the White House. It would also prove to be the last incoming State Visit hosted by Queen Elizabeth II.

Donald Trump has often spoken of his admiration for the Royal Family and was noticeably impressed when Sir Keir Starmer personally handed over the invitation for a State Visit from King Charles during a meeting at the White House earlier this year.

Just before his inauguration as 47th President of the Untied States, Donald Trump had met Prince William in Paris at the official reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral. The two later had a long meeting at the British Embassy in Paris.

It’s understood that the Prince and Princess of Wales will play a pivotal role in the upcoming State Visit which will be one of the most important in recent times.

King Charles meets world leaders

King Charles has also had a series of important meetings with world leaders in the days ahead of his summer break. He recently welcomed the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, as well as the President of the Maldives.

However, the State Visit of the US President is considered one of the most vital pieces of international diplomacy on the royal calendar. The initial invitation came as Donald Trump began to announce the tariffs he was placing on goods being brought into the US from other countries. The first details were confirmed as further pressure mounted on the UK economy.

State Visits are long established ways of boosting relationships between two countries. They always begin with ceremonial including an official welcome, the playing of the national anthems of both countries involved and a military guard of honour. There are also set piece events that showcase the importance of the visit including a glittering State Banquet.

The State Visit of Donald Trump will be hosted at Windsor Castle by King Charles III and Queen Camilla. President Trump’s first State Visit was held at Buckingham Palace but that is now closed for such events because of ongoing restoration work.

It’s believed that the recent State Visit of French President, Emmanuel Macron, could show how the US event will unfold. President Macron was met at RAF Brize Norton by the Prince and Princess of Wales who accompanied him and his wife, Brigitte, to Windsor where King Charles and Queen Camilla offered the official welcome which included a carriage ride through Windsor with full ceremonial.

The State Banquet for the President of France took place at Windsor Castle with Queen Camilla wearing the sapphire tiara that was first used by Queen Elizabeth II.

Further details of President Trump’s latest State Visit are expected to be announced soon.
