Princess Delphine of Belgium has revealed her thoughts on meeting her half-brother, King Philippe, for the first time in 2020.
In a three-part documentary series, Delphine called her three-hour meeting with Philippe “fantastic.”
In the third episode that aired on 26 January, the Princess said: “It was fantastic, it was great fun. I was positively surprised.”
“Obviously, he’s King, so he can’t be completely relaxed, but he seemed to be with me. I think he was very sincere.”
After a years-long court battle, King Albert of Belgium admitted that he was Delphine’s biological father in early 2020. She then acquired the title of Princess of Belgium with the style of Royal Highness, as did her two children.
However, she and her children are not in the line of succession.
Princess Delphine first met King Philippe in October 2020 at the Palace of Laeken after he reached out and invited her for a meeting. The Royal Palace later released a photo of the siblings after their chat.
With the photo, they said: “On Friday the 9th of October, we met for the first time in the Palace of Laeken. It was a warm meeting. This extensive and special meeting gave us the opportunity to get to know each other. We discussed our own lives and our shared interest. This bond will develop into a familial bond in due time.“

After the meeting, King Albert issued a press release stating his support for the meeting stating, in part, “My wife and I are very happy with what has been achieved at the initiative of the King, the first signs of better days for all and in particular for Delphine.“
Delphine later met with King Albert and stepmom, Queen Paola. Regarding this meeting, she said: “The energy was so good. We are very similar.”
The Princess admitted that she is working on her relationship with her father and that things are on the right path.
