To mark the anniversary of the coronation of Empress Josephine, which took place on this day in 1804, we are taking a look at Europe’s current royals who have Josephine as one of their names.
Princess Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda of Denmark
The youngest child of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary was born on 8 January 2011, 26 minutes after her twin brother, Prince Vincent. She is fifth in line to the Danish throne.

Princess Madeleine Thérèse Amelie Josephine of Sweden
Princess Madeleine is the youngest of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia’s three children. She is married to Chris O’Neill, and they have three children: Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas and Princess Adrienne. Madeleine is seventh in the line of succession to the Swedish throne.

Princess Adrienne Josephine Alice of Sweden
Adrienne is the youngest child of Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill and was born in 2018. She is tenth and last in the Swedish line of succession. Adrienne lives in Florida with her family.

Princess Joséphine of Belgium
The newest princess in Europe, this Joséphine gained her title just a few months ago when her mother, Delphine, gained the title of princess and style of ‘Royal Highness’ after a court ruled they were entitled to the titles. Delphine is the daughter of King Albert from an extramarital affair. She is now Princess Delphine, and her children carry royal titles. They are not, however, in the line of succession.
Princess Alexandra Joséphine Teresa Charlotte Marie Wilhelmine of Luxembourg
Princess Alexandra is the only daughter of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg. She was not in the line of succession to the Grand Ducal Throne until a 2011 change in the laws of succession allowed for women to ascend the throne. Alexandra is now sixth in line.
