In the documentary set to air tonight on ITV ahead of Princess Anne’s 70th birthday, the Princess is shown as a dedicated and loving grandmother.
Clips of the programme were released last night featuring comments from her and her two children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall. It was revealed that the Princess Royal loves to spend time with her four granddaughters, especially on Sundays for dinner and walks around the property.
Zara joked that she and Peter love to drop off their children with their mother and just say: “Pick them up later! See you then!”
Each summer, Anne’s Gatcombe Park hosts the Festival for British Eventing, and her children and grandchildren always make it a family affair. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival is not possible this year. She spoke about the pandemic and lockdown and how that impacted her granddaughters’ education.
While the UK was in lockdown, the Princess Royal’s grandchildren were homeschooled, and the royal grandmother had suggestions and offered to help educate them (once she could see them after restrictions had been lifted) in a way she learned growing up – outdoor learning. However, she confessed that her idea was not taken up.
“I’ve offered to try and do some outdoor learning but so far it hasn’t been taken up on,” Anne said.
She revealed that, as a child, she would pick things and have to identify them by touching them and admitted that she doesn’t think many do that type of learning anymore. The Princess said: “I thought it might be a good idea if we started doing that again.”
Anne then laughed and said: “I haven’t seen hide nor hair of them at that suggestion!”
