Helena Bonham Carter has starred in a number of films, and it seems it’s hard to keep track. In just a few days, Bonham Carter will be adding royalty to her resume (once again). The actress plays the late Princess Margaret on the third series of The Crown.
However, this is not Bonham Carter’s first time around with the royals. In an interview with RadioTimes, the actress revealed that she had a sleepover at Windsor Castle with fellow actors Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz.
The actress reveals that sleepover happened about ten years ago.
“It’s fun! Rachel Weisz was there with James Bond. I stayed in Prince Charles’s rooms. We had supper, and The Queen and Prince Philip gave us a tour.”
The actress went on to add: “They’d found something from their archive that each of us would appreciate. So Tim [Burton, the film director, Helena’s ex-partner] had the first edition of Alice in Wonderland, I had a letter from Lionel Logue, who was the King’s speech therapist [Helena starred in The King’s Speech as the Queen Mother]. It was really touching.”
Prior to taking on the role of the late Princess, Bonham Carter reveals that she sought approval from Margaret through a medium. Margaret even gave her some advice:
”’She reminded me to be neat and get my smoking right. It’s true — I’m barking!”
Bonham Carter joins a new cast for the third series of the hit Netflix show. The cast is changing as the years in the series move forward.
Other stars joining the cast include Academy-Award winner Olivia Coleman who will be replacing Claire Foy as The Queen.
The Crown premieres on 17 November. The third series is set to take place from 1964 to 1970 and from 1974 to 1976.
