King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden has sent his condolences to President Donald Trump after fires ravaged California. So far, 87 have been killed, and almost 500 are still missing. According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, a total area of nearly 400 square miles have been destroyed.
His Majesty remarked:
“The Queen and I wish to express our most sincere condolences on the tragic loss of life and widespread destruction caused by the devastating fires in California. We also wish to offer our heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims and to the people of the United States.
“CARL GUSTAF R”
Several days ago, Queen Elizabeth II also sent a condolence message to the people of the United States amid the fires.
In her message to President Trump, The Queen said:
“Prince Philip and I offer our deepest sympathies to the people of California, who continue to suffer from the devastating fires across the state.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victims, and to all those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. I pay tribute to the courage and dedication of the US emergency services and the volunteers that have provided support.
“Elizabeth R.”
2018 has had the most devastating fire season in Californian history. Thousands have had to flee their homes including several well-known Hollywood stars – some of whom lost their homes as fires spread in Malibu. Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Camille Grammar, Neil Young, and Gerard Butler have all lost their homes due to the massive blaze. Reportedly, close to 10,000 homes have been destroyed.
California is where the Duchess of Sussex was born and raised and where her mother, Doria Ragland still resides. It is not believed that Doria’s home has been impacted by the fires.
