Princess Beatrice joins committee for the 2018 Lady Garden Run

Princess Beatrice of York announced via her Twitter account that she has joined the committee for the 2018 Lady Garden Run. Her tweet said: “I’m so proud to be on the committee for the Lady Garden run this year. Let’s talk about women’s health and support each other while running in Hyde Park” and was accompanied by a link to the event’s Race Nation page where runners can sign up.

This years’ Gynaecological Cancer Fund’s Lady Garden runs will take place in Hyde Park on Saturday, 9 June 2018. The 2018 Lady Garden Run will include both 5K and 10K routes and will welcome both male and female runners as “these cancers affect men’s mothers, wives, daughters, sisters and friends too.” Participants are being encouraged to raise at least £200 each to support the vital research into gynae cancers that is being done.

The Gynaecological Cancer Fund

The Gynaecological Cancer Fund is a charity with a mission “to raise funds in support of The Royal Marsden and Dr Susana Banerjee, a leading oncologist, in her groundbreaking work into precision therapies. This involves a personalised approach to gynaecological cancer treatment, which looks at an individual’s DNA in order to tailor drugs to the patient, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.”

The Lady Garden Campaign

Lady Garden is “a campaign by a group of British women on a mission to change the future of female cancers”. The aim is to accomplish this by empowering women to talk more openly – without shyness or shame – about gynaecological concerns.

From the Lady Garden website:

“Gynaecological cancers have some of the worst outcomes for women, with a devastating mortality rate of 37%. 21 women will die of a gynaecological cancer today, and 57 women will be diagnosed.

“But we know KNOWLEDGE is power…Understanding the symptoms will save lives, which is why we are calling on you this gynaecological cancer awareness month to talk more openly about these life-saving issues. Let’s get talking girls.”
