Invictus Games rivalry between Obamas and Prince Harry heats up

Excitement for the approaching Invictus Games in Orlando reached new levels today when President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle sent Prince Harry a direct challenge via Twitter.

In a pre-recorded video clip First Lady Michelle starts by saying ‘Hey, Prince Harry. ‘Member when you told us to bring it at the Invictus Games?’

After a brief, menacing stare-down President Obama added, ‘Careful what you wish for,’ as the Invictus competitors behind them said ‘Boom’, made intimidating faces and pantomimed a mic drop.

It wasn’t long before Prince Harry responded, via the official Kensington Palace Twitter handle @KensingtonRoyal:

‘Wow @FLOTUS and @POTUS, some @weareinvictus fighting talk there! You can dish it out, but can you take it? – H.’

The spirited banter continued as Prince Harry pondered his next move:

‘.@FLOTUS @POTUS How on Earth am I going to top that?  – H’

But in a surprising turn of events Prince Harry had a checkmate up his sleeve because it turns out he wasn’t alone when he received the Obama’s challenge…

He tweeted:

‘Unfortunately for you @FLOTUS and @POTUS I wasn’t alone when you sent me that video 😉 – H.’

The tweet was accompanied by a clip which opens with Harry sitting with his grandmother, the Queen, sharing a program for the upcoming games and discussing one of the events when he receives a message on his iPhone. He suggests that they watch it together and, with the queen’s encouragement, presses ‘play’.

As the Obama’s message rolls Prince Harry and Her Majesty watch with bemusement and as it ends the Queen shrugs and, with a sly smile, says ‘Oh, really. Please!’

Harry then turns to the camera and, with a cheeky grin, mimes a mic drop of his own while saying ‘Boom!’ and leaving the viewer in no doubts as to who has the last word, not to mention the upper hand.

The Invictus Games, a multi-sport event open to all wounded, injured and sick serving personnel and veterans will take place from Sunday 8 May until Thursday 12 May 2016 in Orlando, Florida. More than 500 military athletes from fifteen countries will compete in ten events which include archery, indoor rowing, power-lifting, road cycling, sitting volleyball, swimming, track and field, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair tennis over the five days of the event.

Named after ‘invictus’—the Latin word for ‘unconquered’ or ‘undefeated’—the inaugural Invictus Games were held in London in 2014. Prince Harry is the Patron of the Invictus Games Foundation.

Member when you told us to bring it at the Invictus Games?
Could these uneducated pigs in the White House be any more embarassing, they can not even speak correct English. No matter what it is you can not take the Ghetto out of the animals.

Oh, come on, Froggy. Politically, other than Hillary, there are few people I despise more than Mr. Obama. But this is a good cause, and the videos were intended to be playful.

That’s fun. While nothing was hilarious on its face, it’s nice to see the Obamas, Queen Elizabeth, and Prince Harry having some fun with this. Who knew the Queen had a sense of humor (or, would it be humour?)
