Searches for “White High Neck Dress” surge after Royal Wedding

After the Duchess of Sussex left Windsor Castle for her evening wedding reception at Frogmore House in her bespoke white high neck evening gown by Stella McCartney, there was a spike in online searches for “white high neck dress”. Those wanting to emulate her look have given a surge to this particular style of gown. Like the Duchess of Cambridge before her, Meghan’s fashion choices are giving a boost to the brands she wears.

A team at MyVoucherCodes.co.uk analysed data from the evening of the wedding on Saturday, 19 May at 8 pm (roughly 20 minutes after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left Windsor Castle) until Wednesday 23 May at midnight. They noticed the searches for “white high neck dress” and “white halter neck evening gown” skyrocketed by up to 185% for the former.

In general, searches for “Meghan Markle fashion” have seen an uptick since this time last year.

Naturally, for women wanting to copy Meghan’s evening wedding gown, not all can afford the high prices for a gown by the likes of McCartney. Many were on the hunt for a similar dress with a friendlier price tag. There was an increase of 810.65% for Boohoo.com discounts after the site announced that it was selling copycat dresses (for just £22) of the Duchess’s stunning Stella McCartney piece. Another copycat of the dress on the site Pretty Little Thing sold out in minutes for the small price of £25.

Fashion spokesperson for MyVoucherCodes, Louisa Marsden, said of the surge in searches and purchases of similar gowns, “Everything Meghan steps out in at the moment is selling out in a matter of minutes, so it was no surprise to see much of the excitement in the run-up to the Royal Wedding on Saturday was the speculation over Meghan’s dress. Her evening dress, custom-made by Stella McCartney, seems to have been a firm favourite out of the two, with many preferring the striking cut and racing online to get their hands on a similar gown themselves.”

It appears the “Meghan effect” much like the “Kate effect” is in full bloom.
