The past always comes back to haunt us, and no one is finding that out better than the Labour’s General Election campaign chief Andrew Murray.
Murray had previously succeeded Jeremy Corbyn as the chair of the Stop the War coalition and made remarks in 2013 about leaving Prince Harry for the Taliban so troops may return home.
Despite apologising, Tories have recommended that Corbyn relieves Murray as head of his election campaign.
In 2013, Murray gave a speech at the Stop the War rally where he made the suggestion of sacrificing the prince.
He said: “There’s the war on Afghanistan where we have to campaign to bring all our troops home now.
“I mean I suppose we could offer to leave Prince Harry if that would help?
“Otherwise all the troops must be brought home now.”
The Sun confronted Murray about his speech to which he said he was sorry about the “flippant remark in poor taste”.
Adding on: “I was delighted that Prince Harry returned home safely and, as I said in my speech, I only ever wanted our troops to return home safely from that conflict.”
Prince Harry was deployed in Afghanistan for 20 weeks in late 2012/early 2013. His high-profile status made it difficult to have him on the front lines, and the utmost secrecy was needed while overseas.
Security Minister Ben Wallace is one calling the removal of Murray, saying: “We know Corbyn and his commie friends hate Britain but more worrying is their constant acceptance of terrorism.
“They view our brave soldiers and police as the enemy.”
Tom Tugendaut describes the comments “disgraceful” as he was also a former soldier.
“Offering a British soldier as a hostage to our enemies is disgraceful,” he said.
“All those that served our country deserve the same respect.
“Andrew Murray has consistently tried to undermine the British Armed Forces and he has no place in a serious national party.”
Well spoken. Prince Harry served his country as hard as all his colleagues. Team work! We longed for all our soldiers safely home. Sadly many died; let’s continue to remember them and the living with dignity and respect, and forego flippant remarks to score political points. No one party is better than the other. Surely all politicians desire to unite Britain, please do the work you’re paid to do, rather than constantly criticising others. We’re tired of it!
It was no bloody joke! That’s just how the commie republicans in Labour think. Hand over a serving soldier to pander to their terrorist mates. Can you imagine the PR triumph of the enemy if Murray’s ‘joke’ had been taken literally. Andrew Murray (full name, Andrew Philip Drummond-Murray), is a self-hating aristocrat, descended, through a bastard line, from King Charles II, and a relation, in the female line, of the Earl of Perth. He is also a veteran 40 year member of the Communist Party of Great Britain, who left the CP and joined Labour to help his fellow communist, Corbyn, get elected. And, remember, 40 years ago was before perestroika and glasnost. He was a member of the CP in the days of the gulag archipelago!
