The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge leave hospital with their daughter

The Duchess of Cambridge and her new daughter have left hospital less than ten hours after the new royal baby was born. Kate, William and their little princess left the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s in Paddington just after 6pm this evening.

The royal couple emerged from the famous doors with the baby girl in the arms of her mother. The Duke and Duchess emerged to cheers and stood on the steps of the hospital for several moments as the world’s media took photographs. They then walked down the stairs towards the press with Kate taking her husband’s hand as she made her way closer to the press.

The Duchess was wearing a yellow and white print dress by Jenny Packham. She smiled broadly for the cameras and looked very well just 10 hours after delivering her second child. The little Princess of Cambridge was wrapped in a white shawl and was wearing a white knitted bonnet. She slept soundly through her very brief first appearance in front of the world’s cameras.

After a several minutes at the bottom of the stairs, William and Kate went back into the hospital for a few moments before appearing again with their daughter safely tucked up in her car seat. And for the second time in less than two years, The Duke of Cambridge breathed an audible sigh of relief as he got that seat into the car without a hitch. He then hopped into the driver’s seat and took his wife and daughter home.

The royal couple didn’t speak to the media as they did when they brought Prince George out of hospital. But they did give everyone a good chance to see their new little girl whose name is still to be revealed. Earlier in the afternoon, George had arrived at the Lindo Wing to meet his little sister.

The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to hospital around 6am this morning ‘in the early stages of labour’. She gave birth to her daughter at 08:34am and the news was released just after 11am. The princess weighed 8lbs and 3oz at birth and is fourth in line to throne.

The baby and her parents are now at Kensington Palace where they will spend the next few days before heading to their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, with their two children. And after the Great Kate Wait, life as a family of four begins for the Cambridges.
