Name and title of new Princess of Sweden announced

His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden has revealed the name and title of his newest granddaughter. The third child of Princess Madeleine and her husband, Christopher “Chris” O’Neill has been named Adrienne Josephine Alice.

She has been granted the duchy of Blekinge. Princess Adrienne’s duchy is in the southern part of Sweden. Blekinge is the country’s second-smallest province, and it borders the Baltic Sea.

She will be styled Her Royal Highness Princess Adrienne Josephine Alice of Sweden, Duchess of Blekinge. Crown Princess Victoria was present for the announcement of the name and title of her new niece.

Josephine is one of Princess Madeleine’s middle names while Alice honours Madeleine’s maternal grandmother, Alice Sommerlath. Additionally, Josephine honours the grandmother of Chris. Both of her middle names were the names of two of her great-grandmothers.

A Te Deum service will be held in an hours time in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace with King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia and Christopher O’Neill all scheduled to attend. It is possible that Princess Leonore and Prince Nicolas attend, as well, as Princess Estelle did two years ago for the Te Deum of her younger brother, Prince Oscar.

Adrienne was born at 12:41 am on 9 March 2018 at Stockholm’s Danderyd Hospital. Chris was present for the birth. The new princess is tenth in line to the Swedish throne. Her first official photo was released by the Royal Court just a few hours after the birth announcement.

The Princess weighs 3465 grams and is 50 cm long. Chris said in a press release from the Royal Court, “We are thrilled about the new addition to our family. Leonore and Nicolas are looking very much forward to finally meeting their new little sister.”

Leonore and Nicolas met their sibling at their home at the Royal Mews. Princess Madeleine posted a photo of the encounter on her new official Instagram account.

A christening is expecting in around three months with Prince Daniel (the husband of Crown Princess Victoria) widely tipped to be a godfather.

Princess Madeleine and her family reside in London, but Her Royal Highness and O’Neill decided in early February that their third child would be born in Sweden instead of the United Kingdom.

Madeleine announced that she was expecting their third child on her Facebook account in August 2017.

The couple married on 8 June 2013 in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace. Their first child, Princess Leonore was born on 20 February 2013 in New York City making her a dual American-Swedish citizen. Their second child, Prince Nicolas was born on 15 June 2015 in Stockholm.
