His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway is travelling to the USA at the end of September. His Royal Highness will be visiting New York for a few days to attend the High Level Week of the United Nations in New York. He will stay in the United States from 24 to 27 September. Crown Prince Haakon will attend several events in connection with the UN General Assembly; this was announced Monday afternoon by the Norwegian royal court.

The main event during his stay in New York will be on Thursday, September 27. The Crown Prince will hold an introductory lecture on sustainable development and the UN’s sustainability goals at the International Conference on Sustainable Development at Columbia University. Crown Prince Haakon is invited as a goodwill ambassador to UN Development Program, UNDP.

In December of last year, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway conducted a three-day visit to New York. His Royal Highness visited New York to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This is an organisation which the Crown Prince supports, and he has been the organisation’s goodwill ambassador since 2003. The UNDP has been fighting poverty worldwide for the last 50 years.

On behalf of Norway, the Crown Prince announced Norway’s candidacy for a seat in the UN Security Council for the period of 2021-22. In the Rose Garden at the UN headquarters, Crown Prince Haakon and the Foreign Minister held a press conference, emphasising that Norway has national interests in defending the UN and international law.

In March Crown Prince Haakon also visited Texas for two days. The two-day long official visit to Texas was concluded with a meeting with the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott. The meeting took place at the Governor’s Mansion. The Texas Governor’s Mansion is a historic home for the Governor of Texas in Austin, Texas.
