Baby Sussex: Harry and Meghan’s Instagram announcement of their son’s arrival

His mum knows a thing or three about social media and so it’s no surprise that Baby Sussex’s debut rang out loud and clear on Instagram. Within seconds of the official Buckingham Palace announcement of the birth of a son to Harry and Meghan, the couple themselves had posted on their official Instagram to share the news of their little boy’s arrival.

If you were hoping for a photo then the Duke and Duchess were ready for you. Their post included a rather stylish graphic confirming that the baby many had predicted was a girl had in fact turned out to be a boy.

”Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to announce the birth of their child” read the discreet message underneath the huge headline ‘It’s a boy!’. The whole graphic was topped with Harry and Meghan’s monogram.

Within hours, the post had attracted 1.8 million likes while the number of people following the couple’s account rose to six million. Not long afterwards, there was a fresh update, this time a video of Prince Harry appearing before the cameras to announce his son’s safe arrival and pay a heartfelt tribute to his wife. It was also another chance to hear the news that everyone wants to know after a birth – mother and baby are both well.

Meanwhile, the official Royal Family Twitter and Instagram shared the official birth announcement and later uploaded images of another royal baby tradition – the placing of the easel with debut details outside Buckingham Palace.

The Duchess of Sussex gave birth to her son at 5.26am on May 6th 2019. He weighed 7lbs 3oz. It’s not yet known where Baby Sussex was born but by the time his arrival was made public he was safely at home with his mum at Frogmore Cottage. New grandmother, Doria Ragland, is with the Sussexes as they settle into family life.

The baby boy is seventh in line to the throne, a fourth grandchild for the Prince of Wales and an eighth great grandchild for the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
