Prince & Princess of Wales

The King bestows the title of Prince & Princess of Wales on William and Catherine

The King has created his elder son the Prince of Wales.

King Charles III announced that he had given the title to his heir as he addressed the nation for the first time as Monarch.

His Majesty said: ”Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged bear during so much of my life and duty. With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given.”

Prince William automatically became Duke of Cornwall when he became heir to the throne as well as Duke of Rothesay.

The title of Prince of Wales is traditionally held by the heir to the British throne but must be bestowed on them by the Monarch.

William and Catherine are now known as the Prince and Princess of Wales. Their children will now be known as Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales and Prince Louis of Wales.
