Prince & Princess of Wales

The jewellery link between the Princess of Wales and the Queen Mother

Several members of the Royal Family attended the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall and The Princess of Wales debuted a brooch with strong connections to the Queen Mother.

The Princess wore one of Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite necklaces, a three-strand pearl necklace that she inherited upon the late Queen’s death in September 2022, as well as the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings.

Her Royal Highness also wore a brooch that was originally owned by the Queen Mother. She wore the diamond version of the badge of the 1st Queen’s Dragoon Guards; the brooch was presented to her this week when she met with the regiment for the first time this week.

The King named Catherine Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment in August 2022, so it was a particularly thoughtful choice for the event this week on the heels of her visit.

The Queen Mother served as Colonel-in-Chief for the regiment from its formation in 1959 to her death in 2002. The regiment was formed in 1959 by combining two different regiments: the 1st King’s Dragoon Guards and the 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen’s Bays).
