Duchess of Cornwall to star on the cover of Vogue

The Duchess of Cornwall is the latest member of the Royal Family to be a cover girl as she will be gracing the cover of the July issue of Vogue.

Her appearance on the cover comes as Camilla celebrates her 75th birthday the same month.

It was not an overnight decision for the Duchess to appear in Vogue, as conversations had been going on for months. Not only does she feature on the cover, she was also interviewed for the publication.

Confident Camilla turned down the offer to have a Vogue team make her over for the photoshoot. The Duchess of Cornwall knows what works on her, from the cut of the clothes to the colour.

According the former Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman: “As an attractive, confident woman, she has never used the latest trends to carve out an identity. Nor has she needed her clothes to attract men. That’s not to say, however, that she doesn’t have her own views – and her own specific style.”

Instead of Vogue stylists, Camilla opted to have a small team of stylists for the shoot that happened earlier this month.

The Duchess of Cornwall is in good company with royal cover stars. The Queen was featured on two different covers as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebration in British Vogue’s April 2022 edition. Princess Anne appeared on the cover in 1971, and Diana, Princess of Wales, was a two-time Vogue cover girl in 1991 and again in 1994. The Duchess of Cambridge was all smiles on the cover in 2016, celebrating 100 years of Vogue. Though not on the cover, the Duchess of Sussex was a guest editor on an issue in 2019.

Camilla on the cover also has deeper meanings.

It is another way to put the future queen in the public eye and shows confidence in Edward Enninful, the British Vogue editor-in-chief. His other role is as a global ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, which was founded by the Prince of Wales in 1976.
