The Sussexes in Southern Africa: Day Five Diary

As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reach the mid point of their visit to southern Africa, we can expect to see one of the most special moments of the whole tour. On day five, the Duke of Sussex is in Angola where he will walk in the footsteps of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. Here’s what to expect from the Sussexes in southern Africa.

Continuing Diana’s Work

The Duke of Sussex starts the day in a demining field outside Dirico in south east Angola where he will hear about the work to remove the weapons. Harry will detonate a mine and make a speech.

His visit begins officially later when he travels to Huambo. On hand to greet him will be Joana Lina, Governor of Huambo, who also welcomed Diana there on her famous visit in 1997.

The Duke of Sussex and Governor Lina will then go to the exact location where Diana walked over two decades ago. Then, the area was filled with mines. Now, it’s been cleared and Harry will see the growing community which now lives in the area.

There will also be a visit to the Huambo Orthopeadic Centre which he will rename in honour of his mother who spent time there as she campaigned to get rid of landmines around the world.

Nature and nurture

The Duke of Sussex will also carry out an environmental engagement. Harry will visit the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy project which incorporates the Luengue-Luiana National Park.

Evening Shift

Prince Harry’s day ends with a reception at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Angola where he will meet business and economic experts.

Day Five Summary

The Duke of Sussex will visit a demining field and tour Huambo to see the impact of anti landmine initiatives. He will name a medical centre after his mother, Diana. He will also visit a Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy project and attend a reception for business leaders.

The date for your diary is September 27th 2019. Angola is one hour ahead of the UK.
