The Duke of Sussex has said he’s had to rely on his inheritance from his mother after his royal funding was cut following his decision to step back as a senior royal.
Opening up to Oprah Winfrey, Harry said that financial support from the Royal Family stopped in the first quarter of 2020 and, since then, he has fallen back on the money left to him by Diana, Princess of Wales in her will and which he has had full access to since he turned 30 in 2014.
In the CBS special, The Duke said ”I have what my mum left me and without that we wouldn’t have been able to do this. It’s like she saw it coming and she’s been with us through this whole process.”
Harry said that the couple’s deals with Netflix and Spotify would help cover things like security, having said that the royals ”literally cut me off financially.” He went on ””all I wanted was enough money to get security and keep my family safe.”
The interview also saw the couple both speak of a conversation between the Duke of Sussex and an unnamed member of the Royal Family during Meghan’s pregnancy with Archie and which resulted in a question about how dark their baby’s skin would be. The Duchess of Sussex also revealed that she had married Harry privately on May 16th 2018, three days before the public ceremony at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor.
The interview will be shown in the UK on March 8th on ITV1.
