Prince Harry & Meghan engaged: A list of congratulatory messages

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have only just announced their engagement, and they have already received a flood of congratulatory messages. Besides all the well wishes of the people, there have also been a number of official statements in which the newly engaged couple is congratulated.

The first to officially congratulate the couple were the parents of Meghan Markle, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland. Kensington Palace issued their official statement:

“We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us parents.

We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”

Also, Prince Harry’s brother and sister-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, were among the first to send over their congratulations. They stated:

“We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”

Her Majesty The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were among the first informed of the engagement of their grandson as His Royal Highness had to ask for permission from his grandmother The Queen. Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh have also reacted on the happy news:

“The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness.”

Prime Minister Theresa May was obviously also informed of the engagement before the announcement. The Prime Minister shared the delight of the people on the engagement as she stated:

“I would like to offer my very warmest congratulations to HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle upon their engagement. This is a time of huge celebration for two people in love and, on behalf of myself, the Government and the country, I wish them great happiness for the future.”

Some members of the government felt like expressing their joy about the upcoming wedding. Boris Johnson, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs tweeted:

“HUGE congratulations to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – fantastic news! Here’s to a happy and long life together.” 

The former Prime Minister of the United Kindom, David Cameron has issued a statement on the engagement:

“Congratulations to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Wonderful news and I wish them a long and happy life together.”

WellChild, the charity of which Prince Harry is the patron, also send their best wishes to the pair. WellChild is the national UK children’s charity making it possible for children and young people with exceptional health needs to be cared for at home instead of a hospital. The charity tweeted:

“Warm congratulations to our Patron Prince Harry on his engagement to Ms Meghan Markle.”

Another important message in the long list of good wishes, is the message of Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury:

“I’m absolutely delighted to hear the news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are now engaged. I wish them many years of love, happiness and fulfilment – and ask that God blesses them throughout their married life together.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada sent a congratulatory message saying, “Congratulations and best wishes to you both!”

His wife, Sophie, also sent her best wishes, “Congratulations on the engagement, Meghan and Harry! May your deep bond and love keep you strong, united and thriving always.”
