Harry in Diana’s footsteps: first photos of the prince’s personal mission

The Duke of Sussex has followed the path his mother, Diana, started over twenty years ago. Harry has seen first hand the work that goes on to clear landmines and, like Diana before him, has walked through a field still being emptied of the weapons in a bid to increase awareness of the dangers they pose.

Harry was in Dirico in south east Angola to hear from those on the ground about the daily challenges they still face to get rid of mines. The Duke of Sussex joined the Halo Trust and spent the morning helping them in their mission. He detonated a mine from a safe distance as he was told about the efforts being made to eradicate mines.

Ahead of his visit, the Duke of Sussex posted a tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales on his official Instagram account that he was ”humbled” to ” to recognise her tireless mission as an advocate for all those she felt needed her voice the most, even if the issue was not universally popular”.

Later on the same day, Harry is set to visit the exact stretch of land so famously walked along by Diana as she began her anti land mine campaign at the start of 1997. The duke will see how the area has changed since the mines were removed and how it has now become a thriving community.
