Will The Queen’s Visit To Rome Be Rearranged?

Today and tomorrow, Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh were supposed to be on a two-day trip to Rome. With Her Majesty’s health problem last week, the trip was presumed cancelled upon Her Majesty’s non-attendance at St David’s Day in Wales and then cancelled officially after Her Majesty was admitted to hospital.

It is highly unusual for the Queen to cancel engagements and even more so for her to be admitted to hospital. The last time Her Majesty was admitted to hospital was in 2003, when she had an operation on her knee.

Now, question is being raised as to whether Her Majesty and His Royal Highness’s trip to Rome will be rearranged or just left as cancelled.

Past precedent indicates that it will probably be cancelled, according to some royal sources, the amount of hassle to arrange royal trips is quite tiresome and having to rearrange trips is even more so.

As an alternative, Her Majesty may even invite the President of Italy to England for some sort of reception, this has happened before and remains an option.

Initially, it was suggested that HRH The Duke of Edinburgh might go alone to the Rome trip, then that the Prince of Wales might go in Her Majesty’s place or even TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Though now, it is apparent that the trip has been completely cancelled.

Events like these are rare and Her Majesty does not like cancelling and will do everything to avoid it, but with The Queen’s advancing age, more duties might yet have to be put into the hands of the Prince of Wales.
