The poll also placed Prince William in 9th position,
whilst the Duchess of Cambridge was ranked in 19th.
Alongside members of the royal family, famous names such as Stephen
Fry and David Attenborough made the poll, ranking in 7th
and 11th place respectively.
The YouGov poll was taken by thirteen countries across the world,
including China, Great Britain, France and the USA. The results
from these individual countries were compiled to create a list of
the most admired people in the world. The poll was taken by nearly
14,000 people through different internet and mobile
questionnaires.
The Queen’s popularity has always been high in the United Kingdom
and indeed around the world. In a poll a few years ago, also by
YouGov, it was shown that 90% of people thought The Queen has done
a good job. Similarly, support for the Monarchy as a whole has
remained consistently high through the times, averaging around 75%
in favour of retaining the Monarchy as opposed to being a republic
– figures in support republicanism having always remained below 20%
for at least the last 20 years.
Today’s poll is just another in a long list of surveys and polls in
which Her Majesty is rated highly.
In the world poll, philanthropist and Microsoft founder Bill Gates
was named the most admired person in the world. Barack Obama came
in a very close 2nd place, with Russian President
Vladimir Putin coming 3rd. Pope Francis was named in
4th position.
In this poll, The Queen placed as the most admired woman in the
world, coming in 17th position, in front of the likes of
Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie. Her Majesty, alongside Stephen
Hawking, were the only two British people to top the world
poll.
