Queen Elizabeth II

King Charles speaks of one of Queen Elizabeth II’s last wishes

King Charles has shared one of his mother’s poignant last wishes before her passing in September 2022.

This weekend, The King and Queen were in Edinburgh to attend events to mark the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Scottish parliament. While in parliament, The King gave a speech where he shared his own love of Scotland and also that of his late mother.

Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in Scotland meant that Operation Unicorn (a plan for her death in Scotland) rather than Operation London Bridge (a plan for her death in England was put in place. As it turns out, Operation Unicorn was more in line with the late Queen’s wishes.

The King shared, ”My late mother especially treasured the time spent at Balmoral, and it was there, in the most beloved of places, where she chose to spend her final days.

Queen Elizabeth’s mother was Scottish and the young Princess Elizabeth spent a good deal of her childhood with her maternal grandparents in Scotland.

As monarch, Queen Elizabeth also spend much of the late summer and autumn on the Balmoral estate where different family members would come to spend time with her.
