<![CDATA[The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall landed in Prince Edward Island at the Charlottetown airport at about 6:45 p.m. (ADT) on Monday evening. The light rain and cooler temperatures did not dampen the spirit of the official delegation that greeted the Royal couple upon their arrival.

Lt.-Gov. Frank Lewis, Premier Robert Ghiz, federal Fisheries
Minister Gail Shea and other dignitaries welcomed Charles and
Camilla to Prince Edward Island as they arrived from their day
earlier in Pictou and Halifax.
“It was really good to meet the prince and his wife,” Cameron Good,
a student who also celebrated his 14th birthday on Monday commented
after presenting the couple flowers. He added: “I was really
excited. I’m going to tell my friends at school tomorrow that I met
the prince. I’m really happy.”
Bagpipers from the College of Piping played for Charles and Camilla
as they received officials in the welcoming delegation.
“It’s not just every day you get to play for royalty,” commented
Pipe major James MacHattie, who is also the director of education
at the college.
Outside the airport, a number of squadrons of cadets lined up to
salute the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.
“I think it’s quite cool that there’s these people that we don’t
see that often, but they do play a big part in our society and
government,” expressed Connor MacDonald.
“It’s a unique opportunity, not very many people get to do this,”
Danielle Judson of 20 Stratford Army Cadet Corps Judson
replied.
After leaving the airport the couple journeyed to the residence of
the Lieutenant Governor, Fanningbank, for a brief respite.
They later arrived at Province House at 8:30 p.m. for Victoria Day
celebrations. The Royal couple was then treated to a grand
fireworks display later in the evening to cap off their first
evening in P.E.I.
