The official press release from the office of the Governor General
stated, “Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess
of Cornwall have accepted the invitation of the Government of
Canada to undertake a Royal Tour in May 2014”.
The announcement of the royal visit was made earlier today and was
confirmed shortly after by Clarence House. The last time Prince
Charles and his wife visited Canada was in May 2012 when they
visited as part of celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty
The Queen.
On their trip, the couple are expected to visit Manitoba, Nova
Scotia and Prince Edward Island and perform a number of engagements
there.
Prince Charles and Camilla, who will one day be King and Queen of
Canada as one of the 16 Commonwealth realms, are visiting the
largest of the realms in their capacity as Canadian royals and not
as visiting British royals – a distinction which is considered
important by constitutionalists and also citizens of the
Commonwealth realms.
The Prince of Wales has a long association with Canada, having
visited numerous times during his life, though for the Duchess of
Cornwall this trip will be only the 3rd official visit to the
country she has made with her husband, since their marriage in
2005.
Further details of the royal trip will be released closer to the
time, the Governor General said.
