King Charles gives health update while visiting hospital

King Charles meets a patient to talk about health issues during a visit to a hospital

While helping to open a new hospital, King Charles has shared an update about his own ongoing battle with cancer.

The King was on hand to officially mark the opening of Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick. The new hospital has over 700 beds and 11 operating theatres, as well as an A&E department and research and diagnostic units.

In addition to meeting with new staff and volunteers, King Charles was able to speak with several patients during his visit.

Hello! Magazine shared that during a conversation with cancer patient Matthew Shinda, Charles gave an update on his own health issues,  The King said ‘I’m not too bad… Half the problem is detecting it, isn’t it, in time….The great thing I think is they’re getting better and better at dealing with these things.”

MMUH also has a Winter Garden area, where patients and their guests can relax in a non-clinical area during their stay.

Earlier in the day, The King visited Birmingham Oratory where he spent time in a room once used by St. John Henry Newman whose teachings he has revealed he greatly values.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have both returned to regular engagements after spending the second half of August at Balmoral Castle for the Royal Family’s annual holiday.
