Donald Trump due in UK ahead of historic State Visit hosted by King Charles and Royal Family

The US President, Donald Trump, is due to arrive in the UK later today ahead of his historic State Visit.

President Trump, along with wife Melania, will touch down in the late afternoon and be met by The Ambassador of the United States of America as well as by The Viscount Hood, Lord-in-Waiting who will be acting on behalf of The King.

The Royal Family will be out in force on September 17 for the official start of the State Visit.

Donald and Melania Trump will be driven to the Windsor estate where they will be greeted by the Prince and Princess of Wales.

William and Kate will accompany the President and First Lady on the first journey of this historic visit as they travel together to meet King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Their Majesties will host the official welcome ceremony which will begin inside the Windsor estate with a Royal Salute being fired at the East Lawn of Windsor Castle and at the Tower of London.

A carriage procession through the estate and into the precincts of the castle will then take place, starting the State Visit with full pageantry.

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment will provide a Sovereign’s Escort for the procession while the route will be lined with members of the Armed Forces.

The national anthems of the UK and the US will be played as the procession begins with music provided by military bands from the RAF, the Royal Navy and the Army.

The official welcome continues in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle where the carriage procession ends. All the honours are being brought out for the US President with the State Colours of the Grenadier Guards, Coldstream Guards and Scots Guards on show as he arrives in the Quadrangle. Usually, just one is displayed.

The King and the US President will then inspect a Guard of Honour. Afterwards there will be a Rank and March past of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, the Household Cavalry and the Foot Guards Guard of Honour.

Lunch inside Windsor Castle with the Royal Family follows before President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are shown exhibits from the Royal Collection which have important links with the US.

In the afternoon, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will make a private visit to the grave of Queen Elizabeth II in St. George’s Chapel, Windsor. They will lay a wreath and pay their own tributes.

In the evening, there will be a State Banquet where King Charles and Donald Trump will make speeches.
