Charles and Camilla get in the Jubilee spirit with a visit to the EastEnders street party

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are getting in the Platinum Jubilee spirt early as they joined a street party that will end up being attended by millions.

The couple visited the set of EastEnders as the cast and crew filmed their Jubilee specials. Charles and Camilla headed to the Queen Vic pub on Albert Square which they found decked with bunting and ready for a celebration.

The Prince and the Duchess met many of the stars of the long running BBC soap, set in the fictional east end borough of Walford.

Actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, who plays Frankie Lewis, presented Camilla with a bouquet but it was the Duchess who appeared star struck during the meeting. Rose won the last series of one of the royal’s favourite programmes, Strictly Come Dancing, and Camilla revealed that she had voted for the star as she made her way to a famous victory alongside her professional dance partner, Giovanni Pernice.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall then joined the whole crew for a picture but Charles made the photographers wait. Noticing that actress Letitia Dean was cold, he offered her his coat, making sure she was comfortable before posing for the picture.

EastEnders has now marked three Jubilees since it began in 1985. It’s also run special programmes for other big events including royal weddings and the anniversaries of D-Day and VE Day.

The programme’s Jubilee street party can be seen in June. Many of the street parties for this year’s Jubilee will be part of the Big Lunch which brings communities together every year to share food and fun. The Duchess of Cornwall is patron of the Big Lunch.
