The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge narrate special Christmas surprise video

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recited a special Christmas poem on their social media accounts Tuesday morning, reworking the classic ‘‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ for key workers.

The couple posted a short video to the Kensington Royal social media accounts with the caption, “This Christmas as want to say THANK YOU to our key workers and their families for all they have done and for the sacrifices they have made to keep us safe. As a small part in that effort we have worked with [Hamley’s] and [The National Lottery] to share a bit of Christmas magic…”

In the video, William and Kate narrate a new version of ‘‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,’ with William beginning, “‘Twas two weeks before Christmas and all through the land, key workers kept working to give us a hand.”

Kate continued, “The nurses, the doctors at the heart of the fight, joined teachers, shop workers, volunteers in their plight.”

“And the country was grateful for all they had done and wanted to thank them and bring them some fun,” Prince William added.

In the video, Santa’s elves are seen asking the children of key workers what they’d like for Christmas before running off to the Hamley’s store on Regent Street to pick up exactly what was requested by nearly 250 kids.

“On Santa’s command the elves raced down to Hamley’s to make dreams come true for the unwitting families,” the video continues.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year and an honour to thank some of the most wonderful people of this year; our key workers!” Hamley’s wrote on its Facebook page.

“We’re so grateful for all they have done, and we’ve teamed up with The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge and The National Lottery to bring some Christmas magic. It was truly magical to arrange #AChristmasSurprise for around 250 children in attendance last Friday who each received their very own chosen gifts.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the Pantoland performance last Friday at the London Palladium with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. In a speech before the show began, the Duke said, “You have given your absolute all this year, and made remarkable sacrifices. So too have your families, who I’m sure have seen far less of you than they would have liked. It’s lovely that you are all here together tonight.

“You are representative of the huge number of people across the UK who have stepped forward to make a difference this year in so many crucial ways. The country owes you a huge debt of gratitude.”

As the Christmas surprise video ends, William is heard saying, “The moral of the story, true now more than ever, is that remarkable things happen when we all work together.”
