Princess Anne and Family

A proud Princess Anne undertakes starring role at the Coronation

The Princess Royal beamed with pride after taking on a starring role at the Coronation of her elder brother, King Charles III.

The 72-year-old royal arrived at Westminster Abbey wearing her Coronation Robe alongside her husband, Sir Tim Laurence.

It was after the formal ceremony came to an end, however, when Princess Anne took on the role of Gold-Stick-in-Waiting.

As soon as the service at Westminster Abbey came to an end, Her Royal Highness changed out of her robes, and mounted on horseback for the procession back to Buckingham Palace.

As Gold-Stick-in-Waiting, the Princess was in charge of The King’s personal security – role she took very seriously.

Princess Anne followed the Gold State Carriage which carried The King and Queen before joining members of the Armed Forces in the Buckingham Palace gardens where The King took the Salute.

Sources told the Daily Mirror that Princess Anne was “incredibly honoured” to have been approached for the role of Gold Stick.

The Gold Stick is a very rarely seen, and is now only seen at major state occasions.

The role is held jointly by the Colonels of the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals. Princess Anne is current Colonel of the Blues and Royals, with Sir Edward Alexander Smyth-Osbourne Colonel of the Life Guards
