After the glitz and glamour of the state banquet, the Princess of Wales took a more natural approach to the second day of the US State Visit, inviting First Lady Melania Trump to Frogmore House for a joint engagement with the Scouts.

Catherine and Melania Trump were joined by 22 Squirrels Scouts, the youngest members who take part in the Scouts programme, to see how the outdoors and nature benefit children.

The Scouts posted a recap of their royal visit on their official website, with Chief Scout Dwayne Fields, who also joined in the visit, commenting, “We’re proud to have been invited to show the impacts Scouts has for young people… I’m grateful to our amazing volunteers who make this possible every week for half a million young people around the UK, including those who supported us today. It’s been special to be hosted in the gardens of Frogmore House and to share our work with the First Lady.”

During the engagement, the Squirrel Scouts made leaf art, built bug hotels, played games, and enjoyed an outdoor picnic during which they had the chance to talk to Catherine and Melania. The US First Lady revealed that her favourite insect was a ladybug, and Catherine shared how Prince Louis loves playing conkers—a game involving the seeds of a horse chestnut tree—and leaves the seeds all over their house.

At the end of the engagement, the Squirrel Scouts all received their Go Wild badge for learning more about nature and animal habitats. Catherine and Melania both received honorary Go Wild badges for participating.

Kensington Palace shared photos of the Princess of Wales’s visit with Melania Trump, captioning the post: “Both our nations are fortunate to share a love of the great outdoors, and it was inspiring to spend time focusing on the importance of nature as the Squirrels worked towards their ‘Go Wild’ badge.”

Catherine played a prominent role throughout the US State Visit, welcoming the President and First Lady to Windsor Castle and joining the American couple and King Charles and Queen Camilla for a carriage procession and lunch before attending the state banquet—in which she went for golden glam—on Wednesday evening.

The First Lady spent part of the day on Thursday with Queen Camilla touring the library at Windsor Castle and viewing Queen Mary’s dollhouse. After bidding a formal farewell to King Charles, the US President paid a visit to Chequers and to Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
