The Duchess of Edinburgh arrives in Paris to show support for sporting patronages at the Olympics

Sophie, Countess of Wessex

While Princess Anne has headed home after two weeks in Paris to open the 2024 Summer Olympics, The Duchess of Edinburgh arrived on Saturday to take over in her place.

The Duchess of Edinburgh arrived in Paris on 3 August to help cheer on Team GB.

Menna Rawlings, the British Ambassador to France and Monaco welcomed the Duchess with a social media message, saying ”Delighted to welcome the Duchess of Edinburgh to France for the Paris2024 Olympics. Her Royal Highness is supporting TeamGB as Patron for BritishCycling and hockey.”

The post included a picture of the two women in Paris. Sophie chose a teal midi shirt dress and a casual pair of white espadrilles for the day.

The Duchess has been Patron of the British Cycling Federation since the end of 2016, taking over from Queen Elizabeth II after she relinquished her role.

Her relationship with England Hockey goes back much further. She has been patron of England Hockey for nearly two decades after being appointed to her role in late 2006.

The Prince of Wales is expected to attend Paris Olympics this upcoming week; it is unclear whether The Princess of Wales will be able to attend or if her medical team will recommend she remain at home following her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
