Queen Camilla has hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the Women of the World (WOW) Festival with some major names joining the party.
The Queen happily hosted the reception for WOW. While Camilla has prioritised supporting women through a number of causes, she typically has several engagements during Women’s History Month, including receptions like these.
Her Majesty made a passionate speech celebrating the difficult work that WOW members have done and continue to do, saying ”without fail, wherever WOW gathers, I have met the most extraordinary and impressive women who have, quite simply, refused to take ‘no’ for an answer… All of them have faced obstacles that could easily have intimidated them into a silent resignation to the status quo.”
Fashion designer Victoria Beckham and beauty entrepreneur Charlotte Tilbury were amongst the guests, with Beckham’s curtsey catching everyone’s eye.
Former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard was also at the reception and was able to speak with Queen Camilla again after previously meeting. Gillard is well-known for her 2012 speech in parliament where she stood firm against a motion from Tony Abbott, saying”I will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man. I will not. And the Government will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man. Not now, not ever.”
