While all of the royal ladies in attendance at Trooping the Colour wore special jewellery or clothing with hidden meaning, only Princess Charlotte wore an item with sentimental meaning spanning nearly a century.
The young princess, who recently turned 10, wore a diamond horseshoe brooch that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. The late Queen Mother was pictured wearing it in the 1920s before she passed it down to her eldest daughter, Queen Elizabeth II.
Elizabeth II then passed down the horseshoe brooch to her great-granddaughter, with whom she shared a love of horses.
Princess Charlotte was first pictured wearing the brooch at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.

The young princess wasn’t the only royal woman wearing jewellery as a connection to the late Queen Elizabeth. Her mother, Catherine, wore a pair of pearl drop earrings that were made from jewels given to the queen at her wedding in 1947.
Queen Camilla, meanwhile, wore the Grenadier Guards brooch that was gifted to Queen Elizabeth II on her 16th birthday after being named their Regimental Colonel in 1942. Queen Camilla would follow in her footsteps 80 years later, and has worn the brooch at every Trooping the Colour since her appointment.
Princess Charlotte did match her mother in clothing, though. The Princess of Wales wore a Catherine Walker coat dress in a summery aquamarine shade and Princess Charlotte wore a dress in a lighter shade of blue.
She rode to Horse Guards Parade with her brothers, Prince George and Prince Louis, and later joined the family on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, where she shared a touching moment with her grandfather, the King.
