Prince William leads birthday celebrations for the queen of baking

The future king has led the celebrations as the ”queen of baking” marks a milestone birthday.

Dame Mary Berry celebrated her 90th on March 24 2025 and a special BBC show dedicated to her for the occasion began with a message from none other than Prince William.

The heir to the throne and the undisputed ruler of TV cookery have known each other for some time with Dame Mary helping William and Catherine cook up a Christmas surprise several years ago.

The Prince of Wales said in his special video message ”I want to wish you a very happy 90th birthday. You are a true national treasure and we’ve loved working with you over the years. Have a fantastic day today.”

Prince William also had word of warning for whoever was overseeing the birthday party for the former Great British Bake Off judge, saying ”I dread to think who’s cooking your cake and the criticism they might get but good luck and I hope it goes really well.”

Dame Mary looked surprised and happy as the message was played out with presenter, Alex Jones, noting that the special words had moved the birthday star to tears.

In 2019, William and Catherine joined Dame Mary for a special TV programme called ‘A Very Berry Christmas” which saw her guide them as they made treats for a celebration for charity volunteers.

The Prince was obviously impressed as he said that Dame Mary Berry taught him ”everything” he knows about baking.

The special tribute is part of ”The One Show: Dame Mary Berry, A Celebration at 90” which is broadcast on BBC One at 7pm on March 24 2025 and is available to viewers in the UK on the BBC iPlayer.
