
King Charles has been labelled ‘the greatest king’ by Donald Trump as the historic State Visit to the US came to an end.
As an official farewell took place at the White House, the US leader was asked for his thoughts on The King, who he has already praised highly.
President Trump went one further this time, saying ”the greatest King, in my book” and then told reporters that ”we need more people like that in our country.”
Donald and Melania Trump had just welcomed King Charles and Queen Camilla to the White House for a fourth and final time during their four day State Visit.
As Charles III and Camilla prepared to conclude their State Visit, the first of his reign to the US, they were greeted once more by the US President and First Lady and enjoyed a brief meetings inside the White House before the public farewells. King Charles kissed the hand of Melania Trump who has overseen many of the arrangements at the White House for a visit that has won praise in all quarters.
The last day of the State Visit also saw King Charles and Queen Camilla lay a wreath at Arlington Cemetery where they received a Guard of Honour before paying tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Queen Camilla referenced the jam packed schedule that she and King Charles have undertaken in the past four days, calling their visit ‘whistlestop’.
In four days, they made four trips to the White House, starting with a relaxed welcome on April 27 with Donald and Melania Trump greeting them at the doors of the presidential residence before inviting them in for tea. The four later toured the gardens of the White House and visited the bee colony in the grounds which now includes a new hive commissioned by Melania Trump in the shape of a mini White House.
On April 28, King Charles and Queen Camilla returned for the official welcome which included military parades and an appearance on the Truman balcony with the President and First Lady to watch the first ever Pass in Review at the White House.
King Charles met Donald Trump in the Oval Office while Queen Camilla and Melania Trump headed to the White House Tennis Pavilion to meet students exploring the shared history of the US and the UK.
Their third visit to the White House came on the same evening when they returned for a State Dinner. King Charles gave a highly praised speech in which he spoke of the bonds between the US and UK and the importance of peace.
This final and fourth visit wraps up a tour which has also included a day in New York and a moving tribute to those kileld in the 9/11 attacks, amost 25 years ago.
King Charles now heads to Bermuda for his first official visit there as Monarch.
