King Charles has attended a very special advent service at Westminster Abbey, remembering all those who are persecuted for practising their faith.
The King also provided a message for the Order of Service, in which he wrote of his “great joy to gather with you in the most glorious setting of Westminster Abbey as we celebrate the light, hope, and above all, the peace of this season of Advent.”
Representatives from many faith groups joined the King and other religious leaders for the service, which was led by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle.
King Charles’s message continued: “Today, we gather for prayer, reflection and music, and to celebrate the Good News in which all Christians rejoice: those around us, and those in areas where it is not easy to live out one’s faith.”
The King’s message concluded with a personal wish for the holiday season: “May I wish you and your families every blessing of peace, joy and love in this holy season.”
The Westminster Abbey service was just one of many ways that the Royal Family is preparing for the holiday season.
The Princess of Wales hosted her own ‘Together at Christmas’ carol service at the Abbey last week. The service was filmed for broadcast on Christmas Eve with a repeat on Christmas morning.
Queen Camilla will host children at Clarence House on 11 December to decorate the Christmas tree there. It’s a a very special holiday tradition for The Queen, who invites children from two patronages she supports, the Helen & Douglas House and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
The Royal Family is expected to gather at Sandringham to mark Christmas.
