All details of the national monument to Queen Elizabeth II

A national monument to Queen Elizabeth II will be built, a tribute to the longest reigning monarch in British history. The government announced, the day before the second anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, that the UK National Memorial to Queen Elizabeth II will be located in St. James’s Park in London.

Royalty and Government combine to pay tribute

The Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee includes members of the government, the royal household, key stakeholders, and members of the public and has announced the location of the new memorial.

A very special location in the heart of London

The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial will be created in St. James’s Park, specifically the area of the park that is beside The Mall at Marlborough Gate, continuing down the space to the lake (including the Blue Bridge).

The government shared that the location was chosen specifically due to its nearness to The Mall which is used in ceremonial routes, including those used for Her Majesty’s Coronation in 1953 and her Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. Tens of thousands lined the route there for her State Funeral in September 2022. It is also near to Buckingham Palace, her home for decades, as well as the headquarters of the Commonwealth, and, poignantly, to the statues of her parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother.

Later this year, artists, architects, and designers will be invited to submit their proposals for the memorial. The chosen design will be announced in April 2026 to mark the centenary of the late Queen’s birth.

It is expected that separate memorials in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland will be announced in the future.
