Duke and Duchess of Cambridge lease brand new Bentley

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have recently taken lease of a brand new Bentley Flying Spur, worth over £250,000 and with a top speed of 200mph.

The car itself has been leased to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge by Bentley for official engagements, joining the likes of Range Rovers and Jaguars in the Cambridges’ official fleet. The car costs £118 to fill up with fuel, but only gives 19 miles to the gallon.

The ultra luxurious Bentley boasts a hand-crafted walnut interior, quilted leather seats with an in-built heater and massage function, a nine-litre champagne cooler, two 10-inch LCD screens and Wi-Fi connection.

But the modified royal vehicle also features state of the art security features, installed for the protection and safety of the Duke and Duchess. These include ballistic steel plating, triple-glazed bullet-proof windows, tyres that continue to turn even after being punctured and a loudspeaker system to ward off attackers.

The Flying Spur is being leased to the new parents privately by Bentley. This is a fairly common arrangement with members of the royal family, who lease cars to carry them to and from official engagements. The Cambridges have also leased a Jaguar, for low-key events, and a fleet of Range Rovers, all of which they share with Prince Harry.

The royal couple have been given one of the first Flying Spurs off the production line. The car will not be available to the public for another six months. The cost is being met by the Duchy of Cornwall, which funds the official work of Prince Charles and his family. Neither Kensington Palace nor the car maker are willing to discuss the deal.

This is not the first time that the company has supplied cars to the Royal Family. Bentley Motors holds two royal warrants, from The Queen and the Prince of Wales, and also gifted Her Majesty her State Limousine in 2002, on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee. It was the car of choice of Prince William, who traveled to Westminster Abbey for his wedding in one of the two State Bentleys owned by The Queen.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were first seen in their new Flying Spur on Thursday, outside the Natural History Museum in London.
