King of Morocco sends condolences to Queen Margrethe

His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco has sent his condolences to Denmark’s Queen Margrethe after the death of her 83-year-old husband, Prince Henrik, on 13 February. Prince Henrik died peacefully in his sleep at 11:18 pm at home at Fredensborg Palace with his wife and their two sons, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, at his side.

A press release posted to the Kingdom of Morocco’s Ministry of Culture and Communication said, roughly translated into English:

“The King Mohammed VI sends a condolence letter to Queen Margrethe II because her husband, Prince Henrik died and because of this bad occasion. The King sends this in his name and the name of the Moroccan people, his warmest condolence. Asking her, on behalf of him, to pass his feelings onto the [Danish Royal] Family and the Danish people.

“The letter reads:
“I renew my faithful condolence asking you and your family to be patient and asking Her Majesty to accept my warmest regards.”

Royals from all across Europe have sent their sympathy to the Danish royals after the Prince’s death. Messages have been sent from the Swedish, Norwegian and Romanian royal families. Queen Elizabeth II, according to Buckingham Palace, has posted a private letter of condolence to Queen Margrethe. King Felipe and Queen Letizia, as well as Felipe’s parents King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, have also sent a private telegram of sympathy to Her Majesty.
His Royal Highness Prince Henrik’s funeral will be small and private keeping with the wishes of the Prince who did not want a state funeral. It will take place on 20 February at 11 am at the Christiansborg Palace Church at Slotsholmen in Copenhagen. Only close family and friends will be in attendance with Erik Normann Svendsen, former bishop of the Copenhagen Cathedral and royal confessor, conducting the service.
