Boris Johnson loses his majority in the House of Commons

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has lost his majority in the House of Commons – six hours before a major Brexit vote.

Dr Phillip Lee, Member of Parliament for Bracknell, crossed the floor of the Commons on Tuesday afternoon joining the Liberal Democrats.

This means Mr Johnson no longer has the 320 MPs required to secure the backing of a majority in the House of Commons.

The UK now has a minority government, however, with more MPs expected to resign the whip tonight, it seems unlikely Mr Johnson’s premiership will last, and a general election will be called.
