It might be over a year away but plans are already being drawn up to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Elizabeth II’s historic reign will be feted in a long weekend of parties in June 2022. We can expect Europe’s ruling houses to be involved but they will have to co-ordinate diaries well because the continent’s royal families have some pretty big milestones of their own coming up that year. Here, Royal Central looks at the other big regal parties of 2022.
A Golden Jubilee in Denmark
Elizabeth II isn’t the only monarch to make a milestone in 2022. On January 14th that year, Margrethe II will have been Queen of Denmark for fifty years.Embed from Getty Images
Her Golden Jubilee will be a very special moment for this popular ruler and, given her reputation for throwing a spectacular celebration, we can expect plenty of festivities for this anniversary, too.
A set of half centuries

Queen Letizia of Spain will reach her half century on September 15th 2022.
Look Who’s Forty
Life begins at forty, or so the saying goes, which means 2022 is a big year for two high profile royals although both their birthdays fall in June which means their celebrations might well be overshadowed by the Jubilee.Embed from Getty Images
The Duke of Cambridge is forty on June 21st 2022.
Princess Madeleine of Sweden beats him to the milestone by a few days, celebrating her fortieth on June 10th that year.

Princess Estelle of Sweden, second in line to the throne, will celebrate that big birthday on February 23rd 2022.
A big wedding anniversary
February 2022 will also see a special celebration in the Netherlands. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima mark two decades of marriage on February 2nd that year.Embed from Getty Images
Meanwhile, in Spain, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia will have been married for sixty years in May 2022 but given that he is now living several thousand miles away from her in self-imposed exile, don’t start saving up for that tea towel just yet.
Moments of history
Monaco has two rather important historic anniversaries in this historic year. September 14th 2022 marks the fortieth anniversary of the death of Princess Grace, still one of the most famous royals of all.Embed from Getty Images
June 2022 will also mark the centenary of the death of Prince Albert I and the succession of his son as Prince Louis II.
