The best Royal April Fools of 2018

For the first time in 62 years, April Fools Day has fallen on the same day as Easter Sunday. This means it is double the fun for royal reporters, who are tasked with reporting on The Royal Family’s Easter festivities, as well as avoiding any April Fools stories which are lurking about.

Here are a few of today’s best jokes:

Meghan Markle to join the cast of Emmerdale

It has been reported that Meghan Markle is set to join the cast of Emmerdale later this year.

Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy the vet in the ITV soap, tweeted to say that Meghan will take up the role of the new vets’ receptionist.

It was announced in December last year that Meghan had retired from acting following her engagement to Prince Harry.

Therefore it seems unlikely she will be joining Emmerdale Farm anytime soon.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are looking for a dog sitter

The website Trusted Housesitters posted an advert in the early hours of this morning advertising for a dog sitter.

The advert, which was apparently posted by a user with the name ‘MM and HW’, states that they need somebody to look after their “four-pawed prince” when they travel on their honeymoon in May.

The successful applicant will get to stay in their Kensington Cottage and “must keep the pesky paparazzi at bay.”

Prince Harry’s spiritual stag weekend

The Mail on Sunday reports that Prince Harry will go on his stag weekend later this month, except it is a stag party with a difference.

They write that he will spend a weekend at a spiritual yurt retreat in the valleys of west Wales.

According to the paper, The Prince will be drinking laverbread smoothies and will take part in ancient Celtic chanting during his stay.

A ‘source’ told the paper: “Meghan wants Harry to spend the weekend getting grounded, not inebriated.

“She thinks a weekend of meditation and chakra-cleansing in Wales will fit the bill perfectly.”

The EU’s secret Royal Yacht Brittania

The Sunday Telegraph reports that the European Union are working on secret plans to build a new “bateau de commerce” to secure new post-Brexit trade agreements.

The ship, which will be modelled on the Royal Yacht Britannia, already has a nickname – “le trade yacht.”

It is expected that the ship will cost somewhere in the region of £350million.

Declan Donnelly’s new royal television partner

We might be a little bit biased when we say this is our favourite April Fools story of the day.

Royal Central reports that The Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward, is set to become the new presenting partner of TV’s Declan Donnelly.

The Earl of Wessex, famed for his previous television appearances on the hugely successful It’s A Royal Knockout, will temporally stand-in for Ant McPartlin who is on leave from his presenting duties.

Shows that the 54-year-old Prince will co-present include Dec & Ed’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Britain’s Got Talent, and I’m a Celebrity.
