Royal style roundup: September 2019

Kristin Contino, Chief Reporter

Princess Beatrice’s engagement was certainly a highlight of the royal month, and her green floral dress was a fashion favourite for me. Although I originally thought it was an Erdem, it proved to be a Zimmerman frock, the £595 ‘Allia’ dress per Replicate Royalty.

The dress features blouson sleeves with elasticated cuffs and is made from a lightweight linen material with a soft A-line silhouette, according to the designer’s site.

The Duchess of Sussex’s Mayamiko dress on day one of the South Africa tour was my second favourite look of the month. The black-and-white DNA print wrap dress was created in Malawi, where the company has a workshop that employs local women and provides them with job skills. Many of these women are affected by HIV or are carers of HIV orphans, and the fashion label makes a donation of £1 for each garment sold to the Mayamiko Trust.

The 100% cotton dress, which retailed for just £69, is now sold out. Meghan paired the look with her black espadrille wedges by Castañer, which we’ve seen on multiple occasions.

Kristin’s thoughts: The fall floral dress Beatrice wore was perfect for a late September engagement announcement and the pattern really suited Beatrice’s colouring, as well as the background of the photos. As for Meghan, I admire when clothing sends a message and Mayamiko was a new-to-me brand, as I’m sure it is for many others. I love that they support women in Africa and use sustainable methods and ethically-sourced materials. Plus, the dress is just cute!

Queen Máxima at Prince’s Day: This has to be one of my favourite outfits of the Queen’s overall. It was such a flattering colour on her, and I love a good cape look! She wore the burgundy gown by one of her favourite designers, Jan Taminiau and a hat by Philip Treacy, according to UFO No More.

The Duchess of Sussex has had a rather relaxed style in South Africa. On 25 September, she wore a beautiful black Everlane jumpsuit, according to Meghan’s Mirror, with her old faithful Manolo Blahnik pumps, Zofia Day bracelet, and Gas Bijoux gold “Gourmette” earrings. The ensemble was so polished.

Brittani’s thoughts: I was so glad to see Meghan out and about again now that her maternity leave is over. I love her style, so I was happy to get to include her in this month’s choices!

Queen Máxima slays in anything she wears, and some things, only she can get away with. The entire outfit on Prince’s Day was stunning!

I chose this outfit of Crown Princess Mary because I just love how regal this outfit looks. Mary wore a new Harris Wharf London navy long belted coat with a new red dress underneath with a navy Jane Taylor hat.

I really love the red and navy combo, and this is a very good hat for Mary. I also found the brooch very beautiful, and I love how she wore it on the belt of her coat. It’s such an interesting styling of the brooch, and I really like it.

My second choice is Beatrice in the Zimmermann floral dress from her engagement photos (the ones in colour). I always love green on redheads so I think this was a beautiful outfit, and it fits so well with the background of the photos. I thought it was a very good choice for engagement photos. True to her style but still letting Bea and her ring shine!

Heaven’s thoughts: I chose Mary’s because I thought it was a really appropriate outfit for the event. Mary also always chooses good hats, and this one is a really good one that compliments her outfit perfectly! I chose Princess Beatrice’s because I think this probably became one of my favourite outfits she’s ever worn as I love green on redheads. Beatrice’s style can be very confusing at times, but this is such a good outfit for a really happy occasion. It was the perfect background for her stunning engagement ring!
