The Prince of Wales saddles up for charity polo match

Prince William

The Prince of Wales returned to the saddle on Friday as he took part in the Out-Sourcing Inc. Royal Charity Polo Cup at Guards Polo Club, helping raise millions for charitable causes close to the hearts of both himself and the Princess of Wales.

Wearing his customary No. 4 jersey, Prince William played in the high-octane match under bright skies near Windsor Castle, leading his team to victory and scoring a goal along the way. It marked his 14th appearance at the prestigious annual event, which has now raised more than £14 million for charity since its inception.

The match supports ten charities supported by the Prince and Princess of Wales, including Child Bereavement UK, the Anna Freud Centre, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, and The Passage. A silent auction, reception, and prize-giving ceremony accompanied the day’s sporting activity, further boosting the event’s fundraising success.

The Princess of Wales did not attend the match this year, continuing her careful return to public life following her cancer diagnosis and treatment. Kensington Palace confirmed that while she continues to carry out some work behind the scenes, she is not expected to return to a full schedule of engagements just yet.

Despite her absence, support for the royal couple was strong. Among those watching from the sidelines was Prince William’s cousin Peter Phillips, who attended with his partner, Harriet Sperling.
